Emily's Quest is a 1927 novel and the last of the Emily trilogy by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
Emily knows she's going to be a great writer. She also knows that she and her childhood sweetheart, Teddy Kent, will conquer the world together. But when Teddy leaves home to pursue his goal to become an artist at the School of Design in Montreal, Emily's world collapses. This is one of the books in the L. M. Montgomery trilogy starting with Emily of New Moon and ending with Emily's Quest. It's a delightful series that I would have missed out on if it weren't for my daughter being a voracious reader and huge fan of Lucy Maude Montgomery, the author of the Anne of Green Gables books. I highly reccomend this trilogy for anyone who loves to read period books. It is especially good for young readers in their middle school years. Emily is an orphan like Anne, but not like Anne in that we meet her father briefly before his death and Emily goes to live with relatives. One is more stern and causes the reader to feel compassion for Emily, but there are two others in the house that soften the harshness of the other. And while alot of people would say this was too similar to the Anne books, Emily has a very different personality than Anne so I suggest you give it a try! Another book that L. M. Montgomery wrote that my daughter discovered is The Blue Castle. It's turned out to be a family favorite!Product details

L.M. Montgomery is a brilliant and gifted author. Her very human explainations of raw emotions are perfectly written. I laughed and cryed. However i felt she tarried too long on the love interest and wrapped it up too quickly in the end. A slower paced noval. Thankfully I love Emilys miandering thoughts and observations. Doesn't hold a candle to The Blue Castle.
In just the first 7 pages I stopped to come write this review because it was so distracting! Apparently the person editing this book used autocorrect without checking it because the word "use" is replaced by "Ilse" in several places as well as "be" being replaced by "he". Honestly, how did someone not catch this? Now I'm going to be looking for mistakes in the rest of the book instead of getting into the story like I should. Very annoying. Now that I've gone back to read ALL the reviews I see that I'm not the only one that was frustrated by this issue.
In this last installment of the Emily trilogy we see all the loose ends tied up, and a happy ending in true LMM style. Out of all LMM's works, the Emily novels are still my favorites. Though I always find myself wishing there were more books! I find Emily to be a much more complex and engaging character than Anne (though I do love Anne too!). I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys the Anne series as well as those who found Anne to be too sweet and good for their liking. Emily just might be more their style.
Though the Emily books are a less well known series by L. M. Montgomery, that does not lessen these books. I enjoyed the first book more so than I did this one, but I still really enjoyed Emily Climbs. Emily is a spunky, lovable girl who loves to write. This book follows her as she continues to grow into a young lady. I read this book before I read the first one, and I hated Ilse (Emily's best friend) so I would definitely recommend reading the books in order. I liked the characters in this book; Montgomery normally has a wide variety of interesting creatures in all of her novels. I would have liked Dean had he not been so bitter, controlling, and obsessive ( the fact that he likes Emily when she's twelve and he is 30 something is also pretty creepy). Teddy is still a sweet boy, Ilse as spunky as ever, Perry as mischievous, and Cousin Jimmy as kind. Definitely recommend this book, but not until you've read the first one.
The author is more famous for her "Anne of Green Gables" series, but I hold her "Emily" trilogy as more beloved. Part 2 continues the story of Emily, raised by her aunts on Prince Edward Island in the early 1900's. I don't know how any description I give can do it justice. I will merely say this is a classic "coming of age" story with beauty and charm, subtly and depth. I loved it as a child, and re-read it as an adult. It is just as beautiful now to read as it was back then, if not more so.
I chose this title because of the complexities that came because of assumptions, fears and not sharing real feelings. I chose this rating as the book compels and intrigues you to see how things will go. The talking of all the beauty and sounds of the surroundings was too repetitive. I feel she could have put more of the places or thoughts it brought to her.
One is never too old for L. M. Mongomery books. I am 80 and cannot count the number of times I have read the "Anne of Green Gables" series. Some how and I will never understand how it could have happened, I missed the "Emily" series. My 60 year old daughter discovered it and now I am spending much of my time watching the DVD's and reading the books. Anyone would have to love Emily! They have even led us to dream of a Prince Edward Island cruise!
